ABOUT MAGELLAN

One of the biggest benefits of attending Washington & Jefferson College is the Magellan Project: a platform for funding that allows students to get out and see the world while conducting informal research, exploring cultural studies, or doing an internship. All students are welcome to be creative and form their own project proposals and budgets. The possibilities are endless and many students have the opportunity to explore topics outside of their field of study. This concept fits in beautifully with the liberal arts education philosophy.

The best part about Magellan is that each student is eligible to go on three trips during their time at W&J (the summers after freshman, sophomore, and junior year); that is an opportunity to check three destinations off of your bucket list. Programs like Magellan are what make W&J exceptional. 

I would not have been able to attend my internship after freshman year or travel to Portugal this summer if it wasn’t for the Magellan Project. W&J gave me money for flights, lodging, visas, public transportation, and food while abroad. Considering how expensive it is to travel, my trips would not have been possible without Magellan. Because of Magellan, I have been able to do things that I have always dreamed about, gain experiences that made me grow as a young adult, and further my academic career in many ways.
